Weekend Ride (June)

On the 8th and 9th of June, we went to Minami-bousou in Chiba:)

In the nice and sunny weather, we gathered at ICU around 6 in the morning (so early!) and took a train from Higashi-koganei to Awakatsuyama. Everyone had a nice long nap during the three hour train ride;)

From the Awakatsuyama train station we rode our bike to a roadside station and Miura. We spotted many banners of loquat, a fruit that this area is famous for. We arrived at the roadside station and stuffed our stomach with our Cycling Club's signature lunch: open sandwich! In short, pun-sai! The choices of toppings were pumpkin salad, burdock salad, meatball, a can of sardine, curry, chikuwa, rolled omelet, custard pudding, and a can of pineapple. And yes, we did not forget to have some loquat ice cream and loquat juice as well:)

Once we're stuffed with food, it's time to take off!! But we didn't even proceed 2km before we made a stop again at Susaki cape (very typical for our cycling club lol). From the hill where the lighthouse stands, we were able to enjoy the view as far as Tokyo Bay all the way to Izu area. Though we weren't lucky enough, apparently, Mt. Fuji too could be spotted from here on a clear day. 

We also dropped by at the roadside station Nanbo Paradise, a short ride from the lighthouse. With the zoo and the biggest botanical garden in Chiba, we enjoyed the sense of tropic-ness. The ample variety of ice cream flavor consisted not only common ones like vanilla, but also other tropical flavors like mango and dragon fruits. The famous loquat that they've been advertising so eagerly were not among those flavors though...

After Nanbo Paradise, we got on the road feeling the sea breeze. Surpassing a hill, we safely arrived at the lodging site. This day's dinner was mabo tofu. For dessert we had kusamochi that we bought on the way. On top of that, the caretaker gave us hassaku orange and lemon! After finishing them, we took a shower and then went to sleep.

<Day 2> 
Another perfect and refreshing morning! We woke up at 6:30 and had udon for breakfast. We packed up and took off. On our way, with our cycling club's typical leisurely pace, we had some ice cream at a roadside station Rosemary Park and rested our legs at a footbath in roadside station Kamogawa Ocean Park. We lunched at "Umaimonoya Matsuyoshi", a seafood restaurant near Onjuku train station. Exquisite meals such as sashimi rice bowl, grilled fish set meal, fried chicken set meal were available at a reasonable price ranging between 700-1500yen.

We took a train from Ohara train station, 8km from the Matsuyoshi restaurant, and traveled all the way back to Mitaka, arriving in ICU around 7pm.
